No good news here; it cannot be done at present and that's not likely to
ever change.

The PCMCIA card adapters all need 32 bit cardbus, which the 1400 can't do
being limited to 16 bit, and there is no such thing as a serial to USB
adapter, only USB to serial adapters for computers with USB, to access
serial port devices.

There is a tech reason for the lack of serial to USB adapters that I don't
recall, but the techs at keyspan explained it to me (mostly) once and I
believed them :)  they'd sell a ton of serial-to-USB if it were at all
possible, and they know it.
