Hi all, My question doesn't carry any urgency; I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this minor (yet annoying) problem.
Have any of you ever replaced the speaker on a 1400 yourself? My sound board is fine (when plugged into ext. speakers) but my little mono speaker sounds warped, scratchy and horrid by itself. I bought a new speaker (very cheap) quite a while back, opened up the 'book as I learned to when I did my G3 upgrade (feeling ever so geeky), and was quickly stymied by the inacessibility of the speaker area. I'm afraid to go further into the machine for ruining it. A friendly local tech told me he'd basically have to tear the thing apart to get the new speaker in, and, it would cost upwards of $60 for labor. The speaker cost like $7. Should I just go ahead and live with the crummy one, try it again, or pay the guy and live w/o my 'book for a couple of days (aaah!)? TIA.
