Alan, I'll do my best.  Here are my thoughts.  The suddenly dimming screen
suggests to me that the backlight goes out.  Or there is a llose
connection in the video controller.  I have not taken the screen area
apart on any of the PBs.  I have the same problem on a Duo 230.  The
screen backlight does not come back on after I wake it from the sleep
mode.

I don't know about the hd except that it may have chosen now not to spin
up and crash.  Do you get booted at all?  If the hd doesn't work at all,
transferring it to another machine will probably not help - unless the
connection is loose.
