I have the identical 1400 and always used iCab PPC except for internet banking and a Google graphic search, since iCab calls up the pictures from the cache each time rather than holding the page as IE does. It has a much lower ram footprint, a blazingly fast downloader, and a very sophisticated graphic filter (I changed the little filter icon with ResEdit so now all I see is an indigo aqua button). A few weeks of surfing and filtering and you never have to see a banner again, and if you do, just zap it. iCab X is still my default browser on my iBook.
