Hi list

Following excellent advice from this list I upgraded my 5300 to OS
8.1 and installed CarbonLib to enable Appleworks to function.

When I first tried to restart it warned me I didn't have Text
Encoding Convertor installed and that this meant I didn't have a
working System Folder. When I checked it was indeed in the Extensions
(Disabled) folder so I moved it across. No problem there.

But now when I launch IE 5 it tells me the Text Encoding Convertor is
incompatible (with versions prior to 8.5?). I've tried upgrading it
(i.e. just copying it) to v1.6 but that just gives me garbled text in
IE. It's also desperately slow (a couple of minutes to load a page).
Anyone know what the correct version is for OS 8.1 and where I could
get it with a proper installer (I've searched kbase but drowned under
irrelevant data ;-?

Many thanks,
Mike Russell
