Gosh, that is lucky you had someone locally who had the knowledge to do it. Though this used to be a Mac-friendly town (the university was almost exclusively Mac) it's gone the way of the PC (#1 reason I got my 1400cs for a ridiculously low price -- nobody knew what it was!) and anyone who knew how to do this sort of thing seems to have disappeared. This story reminds me of when I used to have to solder my own printer cables (alas, for PCs, back when 9-pin dot matrix was all the rage)... Thanks for the tip; I'll see if I can't look in nearby bigger cities for people who specialize in this sort of thing. That's a good price for a budget-conscious student like myself. cheers -- aly
