Codenames have long been used in engineering
environments to give an exciting name to a
dull, repetitive, technical job.

It would be difficult for a company to recruit
and retain smart engineers to work on a project
called "microprocessor part number AMD24956",
compared to working on the "Chop Buster 9000"
or something similarly macho.
