Just an update: it turns out my 5300 had been sent in to Apple twice before (!!) which was determined when I called Apple to request service under the Apple Care REA program. Therefore, no more freebies. The new logic board fix would cost me about $1k from Apple. So I'm back to resoldering and epoxy. Oh well.........
