For a nice deal on a new battery, new AC adapter and new battery charger, go to <http://www.smartdisk.com/WinterBlowoutPricing.htm> which has the bundle at $90. I find Smartdisk customer service awful, but their products (actually VST, which they bought out) are excellent.
I got some excellent batteries for the 3500 (3400 form with G3/250 processor) from www.powermax.com at $19 last year; they work perfectly in the 3400. Don't know if Powermax is still selling them. The batteries have been super and give me about 2.5 - 3 hours each. This is one of the reasons I'm really pleased with the used 3400 I got last year: I tend to need a powerbook mainly for writing and email on the road, so a 3400/240 is plenty powerful enough for even Word 98 and Outlook 5.x (though I prefer Word 5.1a and Eudora 3.1.3, which worked great even on a PB 540 I had years ago). With batteries so cheap, I was able to stock up on them and get a really super and truly "cordless" portable Mac. Cheap memory for the 3400 from OWC <www.macsales.com> where 128MB costs $68. Hard drives are cheap so you might as well get a new one. As to what you might pay on ebay, with all that stuff missing, I'd take a look at OWC, under their Clearance category, where they have a 3400/180 at 199.99 (you might be able to get a deal on a bundle with more RAM and a bigger hard disk). You might also try <http://www.powerbookcentral.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi> where you could probably get a better price on a 3400 with lots of extras. Private transactions, but the people tend to be pretty honest. I picked up my 3400/240 with 144MB RAM and a 4GB HD, with CD, floppy, Zip, 2 good batteries, 2 x AC and an external charger for $300; add in the 2 batteries from Powermax, plus shipping, and I spent about $350. The 4 batteries give me between 10 and 12 hours of working time. Good luck. Chris -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
