Hi Dan: Please explain your welcome concerns. My set-up has worked superbly so far. Norton Disk Doctor and Tech Tools seem happy with it too. I can finally unstuff all my document files from archive prisons! My sole complaint is having to use file sharing via the printer to backup my 6320 by. So slowwwww!!!!!! A question techie hackers: I'm just musing (nothing I'd do myself), but _technically_, is there some hardware way to use the floppy disk's data channel to bypass file sharing via printer port as a far faster method? >Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2003 19:51:18 -0600 >Subject: Re: PB 190 HD size puzzle >From: Dan Palka <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Wow I've never met another person who has a large hard drive in a 190! I foolishly tried to be tip-of-the-spear state-of-the-art three years ago by buying a Orb drive which died a few weeks outside the warranty and Castlewood wanted $107 just to look at it. Screw them. So I got defunct $239 Orb drive and 7 $35/per cartridges holding data hostage (happily most which I could reproduce. No more Syquest-related ANYTHING for me!) The 30 gig Travelstar cost me $65.00 and the PB was a pass-along, so for $65.00 I got not only a new backup device but a whole backup and portable computer in the mix, so I couldn't be more content with what I've got to work with. No Zip or CD ROM drive backups for me! As I said my only lament is having to use file sharing via the printer port. It took four whole nights for my initial 6320 to 190 backup by using Synk (I have CopyAgent but it's a dog in flexibility and speed), but now Synk backs up only my new changed files nightly. Takes around an hour. If anyone has any neat file sharing speed-up tricks please share them!! About the boot: Since my 190 has 32 megs RAM, I have the OS 7.5.2 Powerbook Disk Tools boot disk installed on a tiny RAM disk as an emergency fallback which automatically boots up if anything catastrophic happens with the main OS 8.1 hard disk (I "tested" it). Too bad a RAM disk for OS 8.1 would be too large because I'd love to convert my Travelstar into a HFS+ disk! JimWG -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
