In this beloved country people has begun to recieve .pif attachments from unknown senders and also it seems that this .pif has started to send out mails from a friend on a mac with an eudora addressbook -
ANYONE ?!?!????

pif is a Program Information File, also known as a Shortcut, dating back to Windows 3.1 and primarily seen with DOS programs. It also happens to be one of the few directly executable file types on Windows, and hence is often used by viruses.

It would be impossible for a Macintosh to be infected. What has likely happened is a friend of your friend has been infected, and the particular virus is spoofing your friend's e-mail address. Most current viruses do that.
