The fellow who was over tonight told me that most
likely the problem was simply that I either had File
Sharing turned on, which I don't, or the installer
script on the PowerBook 3400c Software Restore CD
PREDATES the modern extended drive formatting that is
on my internal drive. Its the difference between "Mac
OS" and "Mac OS Extended". The installer says the
drive is locked because it can't read it. Wrong
format. Now thats a relief !!!
