Hello all. I have a question for the expierence powerbook repair persons on this list.
I have a Powerbook 1400 with the following problem: When in sleep mode, with out ac adaptor pluged in, if I change the main battery, the blinking led light will go dim. When a fresh main battery is reinstalled, the led lignt returns to full brightness but the powerbook will not wake up from sleep. Please note: the computer does not lose date, time or mouse settings. The owners manual said I should be able to change main batteries when in sleep mode. A service tech friend said that with 6 years of age on the backup battery, I should change it to start with. Sounds relible to me. I want to replace the backup battery. A dealer looked it up and said I need one part number 922-2429 backup battery. Now as I get ready to install, I find there are two batteries. One under the left palm rest, identified as 922-2429, one under the right palm rest, part number unknown. The copy of the apple service pdf I have for the Powerbook 1400 shows the battery under the left palm rest, but not the one under the right palm rest. If you have a Powerbook 1400, you can see the batteries if you remove the main battery and the floppy drive. They are attachet to the underside of the upper case. I found a tech note on apple web site that list two part numbers for Powerbook 1400 batteries. Tech note #11751. System battery 922-2420, Backup battery 922-2429. In another tech note #16168, I find a battery listed by service part number 922-3078, also known as M4507 & M4915 I think that this is the main 9.6v Nimh battery. So now I am totaly confused. I did a Goole search for 922-2420 and come up with a reference for a 9v Nimh battery at a third party battery company. Are the batteries under the palm rest both the same? Are they both 922-2429?
