If the grc.com web site is correct about the Z-tracks and positioning tracks- (and I would guess that he IS right) while even reformatting and even low-level utils can't touch these tracks without hardware features that consumer drives simply do not possess, it seems likely that they coud still be wiped out by dragging a magnet over the cart. If you do that, you're SOL with regards to using the cart again- there's not way to put that vital info back on.
