Greetings. I have a PB3400c running OS 9.2.2, 80MB RAM. I was downloading and installing some software from the internet via ethernet. I did a restart with the ethernet cable still connected. It took a couple-three minutes to get my cursor back even though the desktop (Finder) appeared to be fully loaded!
Am I correct to suspect that having the ethernet cable connected added this extra time to the start-up, as the computer was negotiated the network connection? Is the simple moral of the story: don't start-up the computer with the ethernet cable connected? Or am I off-base here, and the slow start due to some other cause? Thanks.
I woudl suspect soemthing like the Timer Server or OS update feature may be tryign to connect to something? Try disabling Apple talk and TCP/ip & see if it goes away . ..
I gave up on my 3400 running 9.2.2 because it very often froze at shutdown. This was a clean install, so I'm a bit baffled as to why it works for others but not me - has any one else seen this?
Also, as an aside, I have found that switching File Sharing to TCP/IP rather than Appletalk makes it MUCH faster. (To be expected, AT is very inefficient)
