Hi all,

I've been working on a project to hack Apple's AirPort driver to support 3rd party Wi-Fi cards based on the WaveLAN chipset (ie, cards other than the AirPort card and the ORiNOCO Silver/Gold line of cards). Part of the project also includes getting these cards to work with the OEM (Lucent Technologies) WaveLAN drivers.

Well, I've done it. Sorta.

I own a Sony PCWA-C150 Wi-Fi PC Card that was originally intended for the VAIO. It doesn't have Mac drivers. But it is based on the WaveLAN card. So I poked around a bit at the version 5.x drivers and hacked in support for this card.

If anyone out there has a _WaveLAN_ based card that doesn't work on their PowerBook, I'd be interested in hearing from them to see if I can help to get it working.

I should say that pre-requisites for participation, as it were, are that you have an unsupported WaveLAN card (no SkyLINEs or Prism based cards) and don't mind running the 5.x drivers.

Any takers?

The plan is to work this out for the 7.x drivers as well. The upside to this is that the number of cards that can now work on the 5x0, 190, 5300, and 1400 has just doubled. The number of cards that work on the 2400, 3400, and G3 has probably not increased (most of these cards were already supported by the IOXperts drivers). We still can't use Prism-based cards (like those from D-Link or Linksys) on the NuBus based PowerBooks, but now all those previously unsupported WaveLAN cards CAN work on them!

Peace,
Drew
