I have a couple of new Duo batteries that are original Apple batteries, still shrinkwrapped. I found these in an office that closed down. Only thing is is that the locking plastic mechanism that holds them in the powerbook are missing. In fact, none of them have them. How do I get one loose from a dead battery without breaking the plastic locks? Thanks.

look at the new battery's edge that the slide latch goes onto ...
see the two small bumps (actually 4), about 1-1/4" from one end (just below the slide latch groove) ??
Those secure the slide latch.

The technique is to hold the old batt in palm of your left hand, printing up, w/ slide latch tab under your thumb,
index and middle finger around opposite end of case, ring and little finger around charger contact area ...
Put a medium flat blade screwdriver tip under the slide latch close to your thumb ,and GENTLY twist the blade (only a small amount) toward the opposite end, at the same time, pushing w/ your thumb in that direction.
Sometimes the screwdriver twist on the opposite side helps ...

Sorry if it seems a bit convoluted ...

Of course there's a larger issue here... These batteries may be so long past their shelf-life they may not hold enough charge to bother with.
