None except for historical reasons.
I immediately converted to 1.7.3 when it came available, and I never went back to 1.6.4.
8.0 and 8.1 came with 1.5-something, IIRC.

Hmmm, http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/IDE/add_2nd_drive/drive_setup.html suggests I might be better off to format it with OSX on the G4, and then move it back to the PB. That's easy enough to try....
