Yes.. if CD-ROM discs dont show up then you probably dont have the CD-ROM extension in the system folder.

Which may make sense for a computer that did not ship with a CD-ROM drive.

You need to get it off a system install cd.

How do you know that the module is recognized by the 3400? Usually, CDs not appearing on the desktop is a symptom of not having a CD driver installed.
