Also another option to look into is getting a powerinverter. You can get a decent working model for around $30 at your average electronics store. And as a plus you have electric outputs for other devices too.
This is what I first did and I still use one for other stuff. But I find the simplicity of the car adapter to be a big advantage. Part of that is from using it with a battery pack where I Velcro the auto adapter to the battery pack and plug it into the laptop. But even in the car it still carries a high convenience factor for me.
I like using the laptop with the battery pack and auto adapter. The battery pack is only about $40 which is a lot cheaper than the cost of a single battery for so I can conserve my laptop batteries for when I really need them. And the battery pack runs the laptop a lot longer.
I had originally thought the auto adapter would be more efficient electrically but after doing a test it turned out it's just about the same as the inverter / AC adapter combo.

Hi all,
I'm hunting around for auto adapters so I can use my PowerBook on long car trips. Does anyone know of a good deal to be had on these?
It looks like Madsonline has a package deal for $68 where you can get an auto adapter and an airline adapter... And that itty-bitty AC adapter looks pretty neat.
Anyway, does anyone have any recommendations?
