Bookies,
These findings may or may not be accurate or of interest, but:
inscruffling about with this growing pile of parts, I took one of the P-ram
batteries from a dea machine and adminsitered a voltage check. It was tough
to get the battery unhooked from it's connector, which I at first took to be
another one of those inexplicable little doohickies that can't be operated
till you've broken it, but . . .a little patience got it undone, and a
little more (and my Inspector Gadget Magnifying Desk Lamp) got to the facts
that it was heavily corroded (for such a small thing) with green gunk. I
cleared it off enought to get a voltmeter on the contact and it read
7.42v.The label reads 7.2v. So,I pull the board with the P-ram battery out
of this good 3400c and sure enough,it is hard as heck to get the battery
unclipped. It gave a 5.6v reading. And, after swapping them out now
it*seems*that I have good time in the date and time after a complete power
disconnect. Hope I didn't jinx it by talking about it. The leson, I think,
is that overlooking that little connector and its corrosion could cost you
an unnecessary trip to the rattyshack. HTH
