I'm not clear on why one would need or want such a thing for a 1400, the 
obvious answer is to use the built-in SCSI port.

Also, 1400 CD expansion bay modules are widely available even in the UK . 
. . again going for the obvious, how about eBay? 6x and 8x modules sell 
for (USD) $15 to $50, 12x for $20 to $60, keep a continuous watch for a 
bit and ye will be rewarded with a bargain. A dead 12x (_cheap_!) is 
almost always the best deal, as a replacement Teac 24x CD-224e drive 
mechanism (eBay, usually new) can be found for under $20.
