>Hello all >Thanks for all your help with the 1400 for my Dad. Glad its working. How does he like it?
>Then I started from "WirelessOS" and installed the Orinoco 7.2 driver >and it worked perfectly with the YDI wireless Diamond card (P/N 012606/B). You will like that card, if you ever upgrade your Dad to say a Wallstreet, that card will work with the AirPort Software in OS 9. No more partitions. >Now I'm loading software and am wondering if I should go for Netscape >6.2.2 or if Netscape 7.02 would be better. >7.02 has some nice features (pop-up blocking and better security) >I was thinking that 7.02 would take more RAM (I've only got 64 MB) but >after installing 6.2 on the 1400 I see it takes 28 Mb which is the same >as 7.02 takes on the G3 Lombard. >Is there any reason not to use 7.02? I would use the Netscape as a back up only. Or even IE 5 as a backup. Use iCab as your main brouser. It will run in much smaller ram requirement. You can add filters to stop ads, and control the java scrips that open those pop up's. iCab does not support CSS3 yet, and it does have problems with ebay and paypal (those pages are resource hogs) on small memory machines, but you should be able to use it in most cases. The tabs feature is great for the small screen PowerBook. I use it in about 95% of the sites I go to on a daily basis. For email, I use Eudora 3.1. Very small ram requirement.Runs in OS 6.05 to 9.2.2. Spellchecker for Eudora, I use Spell Tools. Arocbat Reader, v4 or 5 your choice. If you can find a copy of Ram Doubler 9, that works great in OS 8.6 and will give you some more headroom. And then if you have a copy of Claris Works/Apple Works 4 or 5, then that should cover all other needs. If you want to get fancy, you can configure a shareware dock, like A-Dock, to do the same functions as the Launcher (or the Dock in OS X), and take up less screen room. I have mine set to as small as possable, when the mouse passes over it, it pops up. Ken Vann -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
