I was managing the network at a law firm in the early 90's and a major
software manufacturer shipped us a piece of shrink wrapped software
infected with the nVIR virus. I wasn't in the office when it was arrived
and the lawyers were in hurry to use it and infected all the hard drives
on the network, including our server. I ended up flattening 12 hard
drives to get rid of it. I have also seen the WDEF virus, although I
can't remember where it was. This was before the 'net was so prevalent
and the usual source of virus infestation was a shared floppy.
Both of these virus's worked through the resource fork. Theoretically,
you could get rid of it by going into the System with ResEdit and
eliminating the appropriate resource. Never worked for me, but when I
took apart the infected floppy I could see the nVIR resource with ResEdit...

1 answer ~ a chap saw one in 1984 which didn't cause him any problems .
so if you recall how J.R. Ewing used to look when misfortune happened to
his enemies ~ practice that look in the mirror ~ far more productive use of
time than listening to PC types .
