I'm going on memory here, but I believe USB 2 was just recently introduced,
and is fully backwards compatible.

USB support was introduced in 8.5, wasn't fully compatible till 8.6. You'll
likely need to download USB card support from Apple, unless you're using
9.1+, which installs it for you.


Again, just going on memory, so feel free to have away at me if I got it
wrong.
