Hey, everyone (but specifically PTP225 users), Thanks for all your suggestions. What finally worked for me was the solution described above (with a slight variation). I got a PCI firewire card ($69) and an external firewire HD enclosure (at $159 a little on the expensive side, but hey, IT WORKED!) from Granite Digital, and an IBM Deskstar 120gb ATA100 HD from MegaHaus (a bargain at $169). I installed the drive in the enclosure (easy instructions) and voila! it worked! I tried many other configurations that didn't work, including a FirewireDirect HD with the Granite Digital firwire card or a PowerLogix firewire card and the Granite Digital HD with a Powerlogix card. Only this configuration worked-and with no 3rd party software. As a bonus the Granite products work great with OS 9.1 AND OS 8.6! The external HD case is ungly as sin (in my humble opinion) but it comes with two fans and is pretty quiet. -------------------------------------------- Scott Gerber Design voice: (505) 466-9333 fax: (505) 466-3422 email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] address: 33 Alondra Road, Santa Fe, NM 87508 -- Power Computing is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... 123Inkjets.com <http://lowendmac.com/ad/123inkjets.html> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Power Computing list info: <http://lowendmac.com/power/list.html> Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> List archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/powercomputing%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Macintosh?
