Greg,
Check the Adaptec website for flash updates.  I have a 2940UW and a 
Grappler 940UW (maybe its an oem of the adaptec?) and neither mfr 
says it will boot or support OSX, but they will both boot OS9.2 or 
earlier without problems.  Only glitch I have noticed is if you have 
a bootable partition on an internal/external motherboard chain, it 
will boot that before the adaptec partition no matter what the 
startup preferences are set to.
