Jerry, I just disassembled my PowerBase 240, ready to donate if I can find a good place. I had a MaxPowr G3 300/150 working fine with OS 9.1 for over a year. However, I remember having the darndest time getting it to work initially. I finally succeeded but I never updated the driver. (I wasn't even aware of a drive update.) Over and over I tried EVERTHING but couldn't get the Mac to boot past the MaxPowr icon during startup. If I shift booted, only then all was fine. What finally worked for me was to shift boot, disable Ram Doubler, reboot with Maxpowr, and then reinstall Ram Doubler. If you have Ram Doubler 9, maybe you have the same problem. I also had to reinstall Ram Doubler about once a month after that.
One other thing I did that I remember having some success with (and maybe also part of my final solution--can't remember for sure) was to use ResEdit to change the Maxpowr filetype (go to the ResEdit File Menu:GetInfo) from cdev to APPC and uncheck "Bundled". Then I was able to increase min and preferred memory to 512K and reset "Bundled" and the file type. Good luck.
