I had a similar problem with my Power Tower Pro but with the CD-ROM drive. When I installed OS 9 from an iMac restore CD, the new OS could not recognize the CD Drive. Maybe because its not an Apple drive? Anyway, the problem was solved when I copied the CD-Rom Toolkit extension from the old OS (8.6) to the new System Extensions folder and restarted. Curiously, didn't have problems with the floppy, though.

Bottom line, perhaps there is an extension that needs to be transferred for the floppy drive as well. Or a driver re-installed which could be available online from the drive manufacturer.

I recently upgraded my Power Center Pro Mini Tower from 7.6.1 to 8.6 with a
CD I purchased that was apparently intended for an I-Mac. When I got done I
found that my floppy drive did not work. I put in a floppy but the icon
would not show up. I remember that I-Mac's did not have floppy disk drives,
so does any one know how to work around this? I still have the 7.6.1
installed on this drive, can I pull something off of it and drop it on 8.6?
