From: Jay Jennings <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Upgrading PowerCenter 120
I'm new to this list and have some questions about upgrading my PowerCenter 120. It is a desktop model, rather than the tower, and has only 1 hard drive installed (850MB). Obviously this needs to be replaced with a larger capacity drive. Would anyone suggest staying with SCSI drives or moving to IDE via the PCI card? Also, if staying with SCSI, is there enough room for 2 internals? And how about dropping a CD-RW in there somewhere? Maybe the floppy could go away to accommodate it.

I too have a PC 120, but it is a Tower. In your case, check you have PCI card slots (you probably do). The SCSI stuff you have in it is now unobtainable and in any case obsolete. What I did was to buy an IDE drive and an ATA 100 controller for it from Other World Computing. You can get drives up to 80GB that way. My 40GB drive works perfectly. There's probably room for at least two more drives inside, but why bother? If you want backup get an external HD. Install a USB 2 PCI Card (also from OWC) to get a decent transfer rate. With only 850mb, you can transfer all your data to a few IOMEGA disks before you do the deed faster than you can read this. If something goes haywire, you may not be able to access any of the new HDs inside.
