Does anyone have an opinion on whether a computer used every day 10-10,
should be left on all the time, or shut down each night. I have ata drives,
2 Lacie external dives, etc, will they last longer shut down daily or left
on?

The analogy I always use is, "Would you leave your car running in the garage all night?". Of course not. It's dumb. You are just wasting energy.

The only reason to leave a computer on all the time is when it is doing something, like serving web pages or some other task.

People used to say that the act of turning a computer on and off wreaks havoc on the system, but I think that's pretty much been debunked by now.
