I've been running a FirewireDirect PCI firewire/USB combo card in my PowerWave (upgraded with a NewerTech G3/400) for 3 years with no problems. I've run OS 8.6 through 9.2.1. The card came with a CD with any and all necessary drivers, extensions, etc.
[http://www.firewiredirect.com/firewire/products/adapters_pcicombo.shtml] I'm sure Belkin and others also make reliable cards.
