Having a problem booting my PB 180 running system 7.5.5 from a System
7.6 installation CD. Would a solution be to bypass the Teac internal
CD-ROM drive using an external Apple CD-ROM drive? All other CDs boot
normally and this 7.6 installation disc boots from all my other old
Macs. It was burned for me and sold to me by my local Mac dealer. I
suppose a replacement disc might do the trick and will pursue this
first. Have tried all the usual boot procedures using keyboard combo,
C key, restart, etc. The disc simply will not mount on the desktop so
cannot use the Startup Disc control panel as a solution. The FWB
CD-ROM Toolkit tells me the Teac drive is incompatible with my version
of FWB Toolkit. The Apple CD-ROM extension seems to work for all other
CDs just fine including then original Power Computing installation CD
but not this System 7.6 CD. Also have noticed that musical CDs will not
play. Is there another extension which must be loaded for musical CDs
to automatically mount and play? Price of a disc on eBay would
probably be equal to the price of an external CD-ROM drive. Could
forego upgrade from 7.5 to 7.6 and go for MacOS 8 but wanted to see how
well the PB ran using 7.6 first. Any ideas?
