I've got a PB180 with 88Mb RAM (2 DIMMS) and have recently added a USB

waws probably the difficulty, so I borrowed his 9.1 CD and replaced the
8.5.

I had a little bit of difficulty getting the PU to boot from the CD and
I remember some of the messages on this BBS over the past year
mentioning that there is a different combination to key in during a
boot in order to get the PU to boot from the CD.

Now when I boot I get a message,
"Sorry, a system error occurred. "Turboread" bus error. To temporarily
turn off extensions, restart & hold down the shift key.

After the folks answer your 'start-up' questions, I would like to point out that upgrading to OS 9.1 can cause conflicts with some of the old software you have on there ... that accepted the upgrade to 8.5; but could be conflicting with 9.1.

I spent a few hours with Conflict Catcher resolving the same problems. Tech Tool would also be a good investment since you are talking about other upgrades. Go to the Other World Computing site and see if you can replace the Dimms with four 128mb items. That's the cheapest 'Speed' upgrade you can make at this time (more bang for the buck)

When you get it humming on OS 9.1 and set up all the Macros ... in comparison, you'll use stronger language about the PeeSee's
