For what it's worth, I'm on a Powerwave and I went from an old ATI
XCLAIM GA card to a Voodoo 5 and things were noticably snappier;
redraw/refresh times are so fast as to be unnoticable. This is to say
that there's a difference between a slow 8 Mb card and anything of
recent vintage. I'd drop in one of those newer ATIs and see what that
does for you.
