I saw a note this past week (on MacNN I think) about Bare Bones Software's TextWrangler being free and at the time I thought it was a typo. TextWrangler was a rewrite of what used to be their free BBEdit Lite program.
Came across it again and checked it out. Apparently, it now _is_ free (links below). What's interesting is it says in the feature comparison that TextWrangler has "Comprehensive OSA (AppleScript) support: scriptable, recordable, and attachable". I know some PowerMail AppleScripts required BBEdit for cleaning up e-mail, but couldn't use BBEdit _Lite_ because it lacked this ability. Maybe those scripts which call for BBEdit can now be modified to include TextWrangler? I haven't had the need so far to use an external editor for text scrubbing, but wanted to mention it for others who might want/need to explore this option. If in fact it does work maybe that person could let the list know. :) It also says you need OS X 10.3.5. BBEdit Lite is still there for earlier OSs if you're just interested in a text editor (find the link here: <http://www.barebones.com/products/bblite/index.shtml>).
