I think you might not have understood. The 'eye' is basically always present in the menubar, it is now integrated vs. being a separate box. It is the search box in the menubar. This is different from the search icon. If you don't see the search BOX (like in the finder window etc.) then check your customizing toolbar (control-click onto the menubar) and move it to the menubar.
