It's not really an obsession more than it is a matter of personalization
and a way to add some of your personality to what would otherwise be dry
correspondence. If you don't want to add any, then that's fine, too. I
don't often add one to business email or email to unknown folks, but I
have a whole series of signature tags for friends and family are related
to things we know each other for. I've been adding tags to other messages
and such since using BBSes and email in the early 80s, and I'm not about
to stop now (although I generally try to keep my name and the tag to the
under 4-5 line netiquette standard :) ).
