It's not really an obsession more than it is a matter of personalization and a way to add some of your personality to what would otherwise be dry correspondence. If you don't want to add any, then that's fine, too. I don't often add one to business email or email to unknown folks, but I have a whole series of signature tags for friends and family are related to things we know each other for.
