I know this. Obviously, the 2nd result I got with a new clean
environment can be explained with the interplay with this gmail "flag"
function as I had already tried to get messages to the old DB.
Nevertheless, I still had problems in my third attempt, after I had set
all messages to be available to POP in the gmail web interface. See
separate post.

It states it knows which have been downloaded via POP. Before I tried
with Mail now, there has been no other POP-client accessing my gmail account.

The problem is I get up to 10-15 duplicates resulting from the same
session. This is not unique PM behaviour and have been teh case with
several other accounts. While this behaviour may prevent messages
getting lost, duplicates still are a nuisance.
