This is along standing limitation. umlauts in domain names have been around for some years in Sweden at least. However, it's rare that organisations ONLY use the umlauts, they commonly use both. Ask your recipents to ask the service provider what the status is. Or just try replacing "ø" with "o" and so on. I'm sure there are rules for that kind of thing.
