Palo Verde provides the following response: Yes, Palo Verde performs annual whole body counts on all badged workers as a verification of the RCA exit portal detector passive monitoring program. We also do WBCs on all in-coming personnel, on people going to and coming back from visits to other plants, and obviously for investigational purposes.
As part of some on-going enhancements to the Protected Area entry point we will be adding portals to the intake side of the Security Headquarters building. Mostly for medical treatments and the rare chance that someone is bringing licensed radioactive material with them on their clothes. The annual WBC is a great way to detect minute amounts of material that may not be seen by contamination or portal monitors; however, ever since we instituted monitoring of lanyards and dosimetry in the tool monitors when exiting the RCA, not so much anymore.
