San Onofre limits Chem Tech escort to samples that read less than 80 mrem/hr at 30 cm (shielded).  We also include I&C and Radiation Monitoring Techs - all of whom must meet a qualification and must escort under the controls of an RWP (if greater than 5 mrem/hr).

Subject:        Powernet: Chemistry Transport of Samples

During a recent evaluation at Davis-Besse,  it was suggested that we benchmark the industry on the maximum 30 cm dose rate for obtaining RP escort/controls regarding Chemistry samples.  Davis-Besse currently uses 100 mrem/hour. Samples below that dose rate may be transported by the Chemistry Technician,  who is meter qualified without additional RP involvement.

What dose rate limit do you implement that requires RP involvement for the transport of chemistry samples?  Thank you in advance.
