At Crystal River 3 we did not see a significant increase in Auxiliary Building dose rates at the beginning of the process. We started depleted zinc acetate addition about nine months before our last outage, slowing bringing the RCS Zn concentration up to around 5 ppb. We only added a total of 25 ppb-months. We saw a slight gradual increase in Co-58 and Cr-51 activity in the RC coolant and a smaller increase for Co-60. This did not translate into any significant increases in local area dose rates.

At Davis-Besse, we are preparing to inject depleted zinc. A question has come up regarding the potential for increased dose rates as we start this process. Did any of you who are or have injected your RCS with depleted zinc experience higher dose rates in the Auxiliary Building at the beginning of the process? If so, what system and what was the magnitude of increase?
