The experience with DMC2000S at Cook is the same.

We too (San Onofre) occasionally have an ED alarm due to being dropped.
Fortunately not often and the workers have been very forthcoming about what
happened. Our access control system logs all alarms so these are tracked and
trended along with the occasion X-ray machine induced alarm and the real ones.

Zach,

I think that you find that other users have experiences a false rate due to
mechanical shock i.e., dropping the dosimeter. As rugged as the dosimeter is,
it is not 100% shock proof. Your alarm response program should evaluate both
the potential for an alarm to have been caused by shock as well as actually
radiation. Older dosimeters can experience this condition more frequently
because they have had more time to be used / dropped by workers. Dropping a
dosimeter can damage sensitive electronics or jar the battery connections
momentarily inducing an alarm..

Good morning,

We have recently started using DMC2000S electronic dosimeters and have
received several reports in the field of dose rate alarms after the
device has has been dropped.
We are currently working with the vendor to analyze the specific
dosimeters in questions, but I'm wondering if anyone else in the
industry has experienced this problem.

I would like to know if this issue is specific to some of the dosimeters
we have received, or if this has affected other plants?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
