Robinson has 3 hot spots and also uses the INPO 05-008 criteria for defining
hot spots. We have been working to remove hot spots that have a CRE impact.
Our remaining three are not a significant CRE impact and relatively "low" on
our ALARA agenda.

Subject: RE: Powernet: Three Simple Questions for your Hot Spot Program

In an attempt to gauge our HOT SPOT Program with other facilities and improve
our ALARA Program, the San Onofre ALARA Planning Team have several questions:
1) How many Hot Spots does your station have?

Station has 7 hot spots

2) What is your criteria for posting a Hot Spot (ie. 100 mrem/hr contact and 5
times the general area...)?

HC similar to INPO criteria

INPO criteria is as follows in 05-008

Identify accessible hot spots (for example, components with contact readings
of more than 100 mrem/hour and more than five times the general area dose
rates), and post them as "hot spot" or "elevated dose rates." Posting transient
hot spots (drain lines) may be appropriate. In many cases, putting dose rate
ranges on the hot spot posting may be useful in reducing technician exposure,
because it would not be necessary to update minor variations in dose rate

3) What is your program requirements for flushing/removing Hot Spots?

Only if they impact CRE
