Hi Linda,
Our inspections here at DCPP are simply visual. We have used a method similar
to the CGA 3 levels you ask about, but don't call them that. Either a cylinder
is fine, or it has minor indications that we can easily touch-up with epoxy, or
it is trash.

We used to send our cylinders off-site for hydrostatic testing as needed, but
now bring a vendor on-site that has a trailer with all the equipment within it.
He has the DOT "re-qualifier ID", has provided us guidance on what good and bad
look like, and provides what would be classified as Level 2 repairs for us.
Additionally, he turns cylinders around on the same shift while our old
practice of sending them off-site often took months.

Hope this helps...

Subject: Powernet: SCBA Cylinder Inspections

I would like to know if anyone performs a detailed SCBA cylinder inspection
during their periodic inspection of these devices - something beyond a visual.
LGS RP currently performs a visual inspection of each cylinder and look for
discoloration, abrasion, dents, gouges or cut fiberglass wrapping. Does anyone
apply the Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 criteria in CGA Pamphlet C-6.2?

Thanks,
