Hi all -

I requested information on dose estimating via a software program and
received this response from Phung Tran at EPRI. At the bottom of the
e-mail is the link for a webinar on May 1st. If there is any interest
out there on this subject, please attend and/or contact Phung directly.

Thanks for all who responded so far. I thought this was a shot in the
dark. It looks like we hit something.

Hi Linda,

I'm not sure how to respond using Powernet but I wanted to at least send
you some information on the EPRI initiative that Benjy mentioned. If you
think this may be useful to the rest of the Powernet community, can you
forward it along so that everyone else can see the response?

We've been working on an initiative with a couple of volunteer 3D
simulation/laser scan vendors to develop what I call the next generation
ALARA work planning tool. EPRI developed a "3D Radiation Field
Estimation Algorithm" that was integrated with the CSA Panomap software
and Siemens Plant Lifecycle Management (PLM) software tool for prototype
demonstration. The EPRI technology is the basis for the dose rate
calculations in those products. The algorithm and prototypes were tested
using data from Kewaunee. You can find out more information about the
algorithm and demonstrations in the following EPRI resources. I embedded
links to the first two documents. The third one will be available to the
public soon. The important thing to note is that the algorithm will be
made available to the public for their use. We want to encourage our
utility members and the vendor community to use our algorithm so that
more advanced planning tools can be developed for the industry.

Coincidentally, there's going to be a Webinar on May 1st that talks
about using gaming technology to manage worker exposure (see information
below). You may be interested in listening to it. It's being sponsored
by Siemens and Microsoft but they have invited me to speak about the
EPRI work since it plays an integral role in their product.

I would also be happy to speak with you individually to discuss our work
further. Just let me know if you would like me to set something up.

Fermi - no, maybe someday with the ALARA 3D concept programs, I believe
it was given a test drive at Kewaunee last year. Part of an EPRI
initiative for dose modeling algorithm used in conjunction with laser
scan / 3d cad drawings / avatars used to predict more accurate dose for
work.
