Ginna does not have a standard process proceduralized for this; we have handled
these situations on a case-by-case basis. They are always a little tricky
because the radioactive material can't be detected by standard instruments but
you still have to maintain control of all RAM. In the past (excavation of an
area with low-level soil contamination) we have required posting as a satellite
RCA/RMA and implementing standard RCA controls (RWP, Dosimetry, contamination
monitoring upon exit, control of all tools and materials as RAM unless release
surveys are conducted, etc). Other situations have been controlled somewhat
differently.

Feel free to contact me if you want to discuss specifics, or if you do have a
procedure for this, I would love to see it.

Subject: Powernet: RWP exempt

Hi All,
Do you have anything in your RWP procedures for an area that has very low
levels of radiation that a frisker wouldn't see (like .3 pCi/mL Co-60), like
RWP-exempt status?
Or what kind of controls do you have for areas with that low of activities.

Thanks!
