CALL FOR PAPERS: “Nuclear Power Radiation Safety: Learning from the Past to
Protect the Future”
HPS Mid-Year Meeting, Baton Rouge, Feb. 9-12, 2014
The 2014 Midyear meeting in Baton Rouge topic is going to be “Nuclear Power
Radiation Safety: Learning from the Past to Protect the Future.” Please submit
abstracts via the website at http://hpschapters.org/2014midyear/abstracts/.
The abstract submittal deadline is only a little over a month away. We have a
lot to contribute about the myriad of radiation safety aspects of power
reactors and how many of those apply to other industries. Topical sessions
include ALARA, shielding, new plants, regulatory issues, dosimetry, waste
management, decommissioning, environmental, emergency response, homeland
security, instrumentation, and medical dosimetry. It’s been many years since
the PRS sponsored a midyear, let’s ensure this meeting is of value to our
Section members and introduces other HPs to the quality work we do.
Christopher Shaw, Program Committee Task Force Chair and Tim Kirkham, Program
Committee Chair are putting together a great
meeting, help them out by submitting your work or contacting Chris or me with
suggested speakers.
Membership:
Encourage your colleagues to join the HPS. As I’m sure you know, HPS
membership numbers have been declining for some time. We’d particularly like
to encourage newer employees to join and technicians who will benefit from the
professional exposure. Please note there is a new “early career” membership
category that will offer lower annual dues. Contact the Secretariat if you
need additional information.
