Below is the criteria used at BFN for changing dosimeter placement.

In the case of single dosimeter usage, placement of the dosimeter may be
varied

at RP's (or RSO's) discretion. Repositioning of the whole-body dosimeter
should

be considered when it is likely that a location on the whole-body will
exceed the

chest dose by more than 50 percent, and the whole-body dose rate is >100

mrem/hr.

It is determine as part of the ALARA preplan or the technician in the
field.

BFN has not implemented EDEX yet. We are moving in that direction but
have some procedural and training issues to resolve first

Subject: Powernet: Dosimetry Relocation/Multibadging Quick Benchmark

Just a couple quick questions on dosimetry relocation and multi-badging.
I included the Ginna information for your reference, how do we compare?

What is your site's criteria for relocating Dosimetry?

Ginna Criteria:

Known work area dose rate gradients make it likely that a portion of the

whole body will exceed the chest dose by more than 50%

AND

The DDE potentially missed by NOT moving dosimetry for one work shift

(based on 8 hours) could exceed 30 mrem.

OR

The jobs collective DDE potentially missed by NOT moving dosimetry

could exceed 250 mrem.

Who determines that Dosimetry relocation is required?

Ginna allows an RP Technician in the field to relocate dosimetry with
Supervisor concurrence.

What is your site's criteria for using Multibadging (EDEX)?

Ginna Criteria:

Dose rates in work area exceed100 mrem/hr.

AND

The DDE is likely to exceed 300 mrem during the job.

OR

Measured or anticipated work area dose rate gradients make it possible

for dose to one or more portions of whole-body to exceed that of the

chest by more than 50 percent.

Who is allowed to determine that multibadging is needed?

Ginna requires uses of EDEX to be specified by ALARA on the RWP
